title: No discipline of forgetting
characters: Arthur/Eames
rating: NC-17
words: ~13,000
summary: Arthur forgets; Eames waits.

notes: This is the very first Inception story I started, way back in August. I think I am probably the slowest writer in fandom. Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] chibi_lurrel, [livejournal.com profile] deepsix (extra thanks for this meta; I couldn't quite make the characterisations work till I read it!), and [livejournal.com profile] jibrailis for the beta work -- you are all wonderful. ♥ Oh, and apologies to Freud and Lacan. I know it's bad academic practice to misinterpret quotations and appropriate them for gay porn. Sorry, dudes.

In Limbo, it's easy to forget. )

title: This is all there is, roll the dice
characters: Arthur/Eames
rating: NC-17
words: ~6,200
summary: A story about desire, fear, and Arthur's smile.

notes: Out of all the Inception fics I have sitting on my hard drive, I never thought I'd finish this one first. Huh. Thanks to the lovely [livejournal.com profile] jibrailis for the beta work! Title from a Matthew Good song. I haven't listened to him for years, but if the lyric fits, steal it.

My first R/S in I don't even know how long: I fail at bed rest, but this was worth it. For [livejournal.com profile] dogdaysofsummer, but more specifically for [livejournal.com profile] glass_icarus, whose beautiful writing inspires. ♥

title: Do you remember?
pairing: Remus/Sirius
rating: R
words: ~800
summary: "You remember," Sirius says. He bites down on his bottom lip, deliberately, and Remus shudders.

Post-angst Rita + procrastination + three heaping spoonfuls of self-deprecation = "I KICKBOX NIETZSCHE OWLS IN MY DREAMS!" I wrote this a few weeks ago while I was going insane and not sleeping very much.

Dear Doctor,
I suspect that I may have an existential crisis. Can you tell me a bit about the causes, symptoms, and side effects? What should I do to protect myself against an existential crisis in the future?
     -- Waiting for Godot

Dear Waiting,
Existential crises are a relatively uncommon phenomenon among the general population. I would suggest that the only cure you need is a swift kick in the ass, but enclosed is an information leaflet from the Canadian Meaning of Life Foundation which you may find helpful.

EXISTENTIAL CRISES: THE FACTS

the rates of occurrence are especially high among disaffected, over-indulged 20th-century suburban youth ... )

*bows* You may throw fruit at me now. But not apples, please. I'm allergic to those.

Something MADE OF AWESOME has recently happened to me. But since I have no time, I'll leave you with that cryptic statement, a rain check for a telling at a later date, and a copy of the article I wrote for the latest issue of the school paper.

EXIT, PURSUED BY BEAR: on Shakespeare, melissophobia, and (obliquely) existentialism )

And now, I must decide whether to present my major French oral on Napoleon or Robespierre. (Originally I'd wanted to do Camus or Descartes, but I don't think my fluency level is up to par for philosophical discussion.)

A very, very long time ago, the lovely [livejournal.com profile] safebox had a birthday. This is her much-belated gift -- I am that way with birthday fic, it seems -- which the August Deathly Hallows Challenge at [livejournal.com profile] omniocular gave me the perfect excuse to write. Enjoy, [livejournal.com profile] safebox. My Regulus would not be who he is without you, and neither would I. ♥

title: Eidolon
pairing: Gen
characters: Regulus, Sirius
rating: PG
words: ~850
summary: The last time Regulus saw his brother was on Platform 9 and 3/4.

About 10% of what I've written struggles up out of my hard drive to see the light of your computer screen. Generally, a fic exchange deadline is involved. This was written for [livejournal.com profile] westernredcedar, for [livejournal.com profile] dh_predictions (originally posted here). The Regulus in my head won't let me write stories about anyone else, it seems.

title: Arriving Somewhere (But Not Here)
pairing: Gen
characters: Regulus-centric (cameos by Sirius and Narcissa)
rating: PG
words: ~1,400
summary: Travelling to nowhere suspends Regulus in a safe cocoon spun from in-between places. Regulus; trains; choices.

fare forward, travellers! not escaping from the past / into different lives, or into any future )

i. I finally finished -- well, "finished" -- about 600 words of original fiction & 800 words of fic starring Regulus. Anyone willing to look over either of these with a critical eye? ♥

ii. five four "word of the day" scribbles
The word of the day exercise at writing camp went sort of like this: Day starts. Arrive (late). Sit down. Dictionary opened. Word chosen at random. For five minutes, write. Stop. Excise and revise madly throughout day. Share scribbles.

As always, feedback & concrit appreciated. I omitted Tuesday's scribble because it was horrific. But honestly, what can you hope to get out of the prompt "moustache"?!

[livejournal.com profile] springtime_gen reveals went up last week. It nearly killed me to write this story out the way it wanted to be written -- but I think it's one of the better things I've done. So I'm reposting, for anyone who didn't catch it the first time around.

title: Of Heroes
pairing: Gen
characters: Regulus-centric (appearances by Sirius, the Marauders, the Blacks)
rating: PG13
words: ~5,900
summary: Regulus has always wanted to do great things, and perhaps he could have, in some other time and place -- but this is not that time, or that place, and this is not that story.

the world just shifted on its axis and no one bothered to tell him )

So, because I like things to be neat & tidy, I finally got around to locking down my now-defunct fandom/writing journal, [livejournal.com profile] expositionary, and reposting the fics here.

What I've post is always a fraction of what I write -- original fiction is still gathering dust on my hard drive. None of this is new & you're not in the least obliged to read any of it (especially if you're not fannishly inclined), but. In case you either missed the first posting or want to poke/mock it, it's here. Concrit is, as always, gold.

Three browsing options:
a) the links posted under the cut,
b) the tag love letters to literature,
c) scroll right on by (this option recommended for best results).

fics i've written over the past year or so )

And now, I am starting one of two English essays (due next week, worth 20% of my final IB English mark, cumulatively) and not coming up for air until I've finished, damn it. You know what would be good? If I could find my copy of the novel I'm supposed to be analysing.

title: Runaway: A Story About Sirius Black and Remus Lupin
pairing: Remus/Sirius
rating: PG13
summary: During the sweltering summer of 1976, Sirius Black leaves one family, joins another, and falls in love.

notes: "Runaway" was a serial, co-authored by myself and several others -- [livejournal.com profile] closet_zebra, [livejournal.com profile] last_radio, [livejournal.com profile] magnetic_pole (who got the ball rolling), [livejournal.com profile] plumerri, [livejournal.com profile] sazzlette, and myself (then [livejournal.com profile] expositionary) -- as daily (!) installments during [livejournal.com profile] dogdaysofsummer 2006. It ended up being a layered, multi-faceted thing -- and, in short, was the most fun, stressful, and rewarding time I've had in fandom yet. ♥

As a serial, this fic needs to be read in its entirety. I may be (more than a little) biased, but I recommend it highly, if only because I'm honestly amazed at some of the other writers' skill.

title: This Is the Way the World Ends
characters: the Lone Power, Earth
rating: PG
words: ~500
summary: In my beginning is my end. A look at an apocalypse, of sorts, through the eyes of the Lone Power.

notes: Written a while ago; reposted from my writing journal. -- This is not the story I set out to write, I'll admit. I'm not quite sure what it is. Title and summary text stolen from T.S. Eliot.

title: Transitional
pairing: Gen
characters: Remus, Lily, werewolves
rating: PG13
words: 400
summary: There exist some things that no one wants to see.

notes: Written a while ago for the [livejournal.com profile] darkening_days prompt becoming; reposted from my writing journal. -- The idea is one that's been rattling around inside my mind since I started plotting this a long piece of Remus + werewolves genfic, and the prompt made me itch to write this snippet out.

title: Remnants of a War
pairing: Remus/Sirius
characters: Remus-centric; mentions of Sirius, James, Lily, Peter; cameos by Frank, Dumbledore, and various other Order members.
rating: PG
words: 3,500
summary: In the aftermath of the first war, Remus deals with betrayal, loss, and displacement. This is the series of events which led up to his departure; Remus/Sirius undertones, but at its core, this is a fic about Remus.

notes: Written a while ago; reposted from my writing journal. -- Huge thanks to the lovely [livejournal.com profile] last_radio for the beta job. Originally this fic was intended as gen, but somehow, Remus/Sirius managed to insinuate itself. Believe what they tell you, children, slash fanfiction really is subversive.

title: All the Falling Stars
characters: the Marauders (light Remus/Sirius)
rating: PG
words: 1, 001 (palindrome power!)
summary: The only quiet Sirius is a Sirius waiting to detonate.

notes: Written a while ago; reposted from my writing journal. -- This started as part of a multi-era fic, decided to be Sirius gen for a while, and eventually became R/S.

title: The Consequences of Springtime
pairing: Remus/Sirius
rating: G
words: 440
summary: Remus Lupin has decided that he cannot stand spring, and this is why.

notes: Written a while ago; reposted from my writing journal. -- This ficlet uses something I like to call point-collapse -- the actual piece is set at one specific point in time, and the narrative collapses down to that point (if that makes any sense whatsoever). Also. It is utter fluff.

spring -- damn it -- creeps in through the drapes and the windows and the open doors )

title: A Definition of Longing
pairing: Remus/Sirius
rating: PG
words: ~500
summary: On the consciousness of a werewolf and the meanings of emotions.

notes: Written a while ago; reposted from my writing journal. -- More like a number of introspective pieces strung together instead than actual fic in which things happen; Plotline and I have a long-standing feud.

title: Stumbling into Battle
pairing: Gen
characters: Remus-centric; appearances by the Marauders and Lily
rating: PG
words: ~2,800
summary: Fragments and snapshots of what falls between the cracks and forgotten, outshone by the glory of war.

notes: I tend to romanticise battle, think of glory and élan, but studying wars in-depth in classes has opened my eyes, I hope. Huge thanks to [livejournal.com profile] magnetic_pole for the insightful beta job; part three was written with you in mind, Maggie. Title stolen from Patrick Wolf.

This is the first fic I've posted in a long while -- I write constantly, but most of it just doesn't meet my standards and stays buried in my hard drive. So, I hope you enjoy.

i. The Always Something There to Remind Me meme! Post what reminds you of me.

ii. A drabble invented during a bout of insomnia & thought slightly clever at the time. It's not what you think. Proper length for once, hah; cutting drabbles down to exactly 100 words pains my verbose soul.
